How do we ensure improved health and wellbeing for all?

Good health underpins the success of any society. At Deakin, we're driving meaningful research to improve the health and wellbeing of our local and global communities. We’re solving significant health challenges by working to improve healthcare systems and identify novel technological solutions.

Find out more about our health research below and discover how we're transforming health and wellbeing.

Healthy food options

Healthier food options in recreation centre canteens and cafes is good for community health, according to a research partnership between Deakin and YMCA Victoria. The study found that implementing healthier menus doesn’t have to negatively impact cafe and canteen revenue.

Movement at school

TransformUs is re-framing the way children learn by moving more and sitting less, using behavioural, pedagogical and environmental strategies. Available in Victorian primary schools, the world-first program is the culmination of over 15 years of research by the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition.

Childhood obesity

A joint project between Deakin’s Global Obesity Centre and community members from a regional Victorian town is making the healthy choice the easy choice for local children. SEA Change Portland has resulted in more than 300 community actions being taken to address childhood obesity locally.
