Media Wars and Digital Laws - Facts, Fears and Finkelstein

Professor Henry Ergas, Associate Professor Martin Hirst and John Roskam are the guest speakers at the next Deakin Policy Forum.

The Forum, established by Professor Michael Porter from the Alfred Deakin Research Institute, targets subjects at the centre of the political, economic, and social debates within Australia but also tackles areas of policy failure and emerging concerns and opportunities.

This month's forum is titled: “Media Wars and Digital Laws - Facts, Fears and Finkelstein”.

It will be held Deakin University's Melbourne City City on April 24th, starting at 7.15am.

Professor Ergas is Senior Economic Adviser, Deloitte and inaugural Professor of Infrastructure Economics, Wollongong, He has been Counsellor for Structural Policy, OECD and taught at ?cole Nationale in Paris, Monash and Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Henry, a lay member of the NZ High Court, is also a columnist for The Australian.

Associate Professor Martin Hirst joined Deakin University in 2011 after five years as head of journalism at AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand.

He is the author of several books on journalism and news, including News 2.0: Can journalism survive the Internet.

Associate Professor Hirst is journalism discipline coordinator at Deakin and his research interests include journalism law, ethics and regulation; technology and the news industry and the politics of the press.

He is a former journalist and currently writes for The Conversation

John Roskam is the Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs. He has a fortnightly column in The Australian Financial Review and appears regularly in the media including ABC Radio in Melbourne, and Sky News. He is the co-editor of 100 Great Books of Liberty, and Australia's Education Choices.

Dr Martin Hirst joined Deakin University in 2011 after five years as head of journalism at AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand.
