Deakin University is a leading centre for research into the preferences and behaviours of contemporary cultural audiences. This research has influenced the policies and decisions of cultural producers, funding agencies and governments. To date this work has generated successful ARC Discovery grants, industry grants and consultancies from state and local governments and non-government organisations and a significant publications profile.
Researchers at Deakin associated with this enquiry span a wide number of fields of research cultural theory, cultural economics, arts administration, and specific domain studies.

Between them the researchers have established a productive cross-disciplinary group that can draw on a range of discipline-based knowledge and methodologies to tackle the complex and hybrid nature of contemporary audiences and cultural engagements.
