More than 40 invited guests from Deakin University, Monash University, CSIRO, DSTO and industry enjoyed the hospitality of Professor Forsyth and her team at the opening of the ACES ITRI labs at Burwood on the afternoon of 21st of December 2010.
The laboratories were officially opened by Prof. Lee Astheimer DVC (R) and Prof. Peter Hodgson, ITRI Director. Professor Forsyth's students and research fellows took the visitors on a tour of the laboratories where a suite of world class electrochemical and surface characterisation equipment has been established. The visitors were also able to experience first hand the cutting edge research being undertaken at ITRI Burwood labs, including novel metal air battery research, tribology and new chemical methods to mitigate corrosion of steel, aluminium and magnesium alloys.
The laboratories currently support Professor Forsyth and Dr. Howlett's team of four research fellows, 9 PhD students, 2 undergraduate research students and regular international visitors/interns. In addition Adjunct Professors Bruce Hinton and Tony Hollenkamp will be regular fixtures in the laboratories working closely with the research students in particular.
