Deakin University has played a key role in developing new lightweight seats for electric motor vehicles.
Leading automotive parts supplier Futuris has teamed up with the Co-operative Research Centre for Advanced Automotive Technology (AutoCRC) to develop the radical new approach to stripping weight out of its car seats.
"This has been a fantastic project to be part of," said Deakin University's Associate Professor Bronwyn Fox.
"Because of our leading edge research at Deakin in carbon fibre, we been working on light weight seats for electric vehicles with Futuris, CSIRO and the AutoCRC for a number of years now
"These new lightweight seats will help speed the transition from petrol driven cars to electric vehicles, a key part of creating a sustainable motor vehicle industry of the future."
