Professor David Walker, one of Deakin's leading lights, is heading home to South Australia to be part of the Adelaide Festival.

Professor Walker, whose recent book Not Dark Yet chronicling in part his early days growing up in SA, as well as his dealings with macular degeneration, will be part of the Writers Festival.

His blindness caused him to reconsider his own relation to the past, and the history of his family, which, like most families, left very few records.

Professor Walker is Professor of Australian Studies at Deakin and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

His other books include Dream and Disillusion: The Search for Australian Cultural Identity, and Anxious Nation: Australia and the Rise of Asia.
