Deakin University has launched a ground-breaking new way to fund research.
 
In partnership with the crowd funding site Pozible.com, Deakin is offering members of the public the opportunity to make tax-deductible donations to a range of unique research projects that are important to them, as well as the researchers.

Crowd funding has been successfully used to foster innovation in a number of entrepreneurial fields. The Deakin-Pozible project, called Research My World, is the first concerted approach to taking this into research funding in Australia.

Simply by going online individuals and small to medium enterprises can translate their emotional and social enthusiasm for a project into financial support.

There are eight research projects which are looking for funding from between $5,000 and $20,000:
