Deakin University has been included in the top 500 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for the first time.
In the just released 2014 ARWU rankings, Deakin is in 4th place in Victoria and 19th in Australia.
"We are delighted by this international acknowledgment of the progress we are making as a university in our academic and research endeavors," said Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander.
"Deakin is extremely proud of our research achievements and our research staff and students who have contributed to this excellent result. I commend their exceptional performance and their dedication to conducting high quality research that makes a real difference to the world.
"In our 40th year we are placed in the top 3% of global universities in all three of the international global ranking systems."
