Three Minute Thesis

Deakin staff and members of the public are urged to be part of the audience for this year's Three Minute Thesis final to be held in Geelong.

"We're urging people from the faculties and institutes to come along and support their colleagues who have made the final, even make a little, or a lot of noise," said Professor Lee Astheimer, Deakin's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).

"We also encouraging the people of Geelong to come and along and see what exciting projects our researchers are working on."

The 3MT is an exercise in developing academic and research communication skills. Higher degrees by research students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.

Deakin's winner received $2000 and a trip to the national final in Sydney.

The winner of the national final receives $5000.

Tristan Simons represented Deakin at last year's final, winning the people's award which is voted by the audience.

When: Thursday, July 18, at 3pm.

Where: Geelong Performing Arts Centre, Geelong, 50 Little Malop Street, Geelong.
