The influence that industry has over government policy is probably the single biggest barrier to getting effective policies in place for obesity prevention, says Professor Boyd Swinburn.

Deakin University's Professor Boyd Swinburn has joined some of Australia's leading health experts in claiming that the food and beverage industry lobby in Australia is a key obstacle to improving health.

Professor Swinburn was interviewed on the ABC1’s Lateline program, along with Professors Rob Moodie and Bruce Neal and Michael Moore from the Public Health Association of Australia.

“The influence that industry has over government policy is probably the single biggest barrier to getting effective policies in place for obesity prevention,” Professor Swinburn said.
