They come to Deakin from all over the globe.
Deakin’s researchers are drawn from all over the world, something that was celebrating a multi-cultural day at the Geelong Technology Precinct in August.
After the traditional welcome to country, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander, and the Director of the Institute for Frontier Materials, Professor Peter Hodgson, welcomed guests from:
- Czech Republic
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- Sri Lanka
- United States of America
- United Kingdom
The crowd was entertained by the multi-lingual Deakin Choir which included three folk songs Vatanam from Iran, One Land, One Song from China and Waltzing Matilda from Australia.
There was also an Indigenous Australian dance performance.
Professor Hodgson said that working at the GTP offered the opportunity to meet people from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds.
“I always encourage people to not just come here and do their research, but to take the time to find out more about their colleagues and where they come from,” he said.
