The Project Grants Scheme is the NHMRC's main avenue of support for individuals and small teams of researchers undertaking biomedical, public health and health services research in Australian universities, medical schools, hospitals and other research institutions.

The objective of the Project Grants scheme is to support the creation of new knowledge by funding the best investigator-initiated research project plan of between one and five years, in any area relevant to human health.

For this coming round, applicants may submit up to two Project Grant applications. Applicants must continue to comply with NHMRC policy on the numbers of concurrently held grants (maximum of six). For example, if an applicant will hold five active Project Grants in 2019, only one Project Grant application may be submitted in 2018.

How to apply

  1. Liaise with your faculty/IFM (or your SRC if in Faculty of Health).
  2. If your faculty/IFM supports your application, DR-Grants will liaise with you and your assessors regarding the internal assessment.
  3. Read the Funding Rules and Instructions to Applicants
  4. Commence your application in the NHMRC Research Grants Management System - RGMS.
  5. Contact the DR-Grants NHMRC team if you have any queries.
