China Scholarship Council (CSC) - Deakin University Joint Funding Program

Deakin University and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) established this program in October 2018 providing exciting scholarship and placement opportunities to Chinese students conducting research in Australia. Successful applicants sponsored through this prestigious program will undertake their PhD degree or conduct research as a visiting PhD student, post-doctoral fellow or visiting scholar in Deakin's world-class facilities supported by global leaders in their field.

PhD students

The China Scholarship Council and Deakin University will jointly sponsor up to 20 Chinese students each year to undertake a PhD at Deakin University for up to 4 years.

Eligibility

All candidates need to satisfy the following selection criteria:

  • be a citizen of the People's Republic of China at the time of application
  • meet all Deakin admission entry requirements, including English proficiency
  • be intending to pursue a PhD in one of the priority areas identified above
  • satisfy any other selection criteria set out by the China Scholarship Council

Deakin University strongly recommends that candidates familiarise themselves with the CSC scholarship's specific conditions on the CSC website prior to applying to the program.

Benefits

The China Scholarship Council will provide a living allowance, including overseas health coverage, for up to 4 years (currently AUD $20,400 per year) as well as Australian visa application fees and a return international airfare to Australia.

Deakin will provide scholarship support equivalent to the cost of full tuition up to 4 years and a living allowance supplement of AUD $7,196 per year.

The total living allowance is AUD $27,596 per year.

Application process

Candidates can apply to Deakin via the University's online portal.

Candidates shall specify in their applications that they apply through the "China Scholarship Council - Deakin University Joint Funding Program".

The submission deadline for PhD applications to Deakin is January 31st, 2019.

Deakin University will evaluate the applications and send the successful candidates a letter of acceptance by March 1st, 2019.

Accepted PhD candidates should then apply to the China Scholarship Council by April 5th, 2019.

Visiting PhD students

The China Scholarship Council and Deakin University will jointly sponsor up to 20 selected visiting PhD students from China each year for a maximum of 2 years.

Benefits

The China Scholarship Council will provide visiting PhD students with a living allowance, including overseas health coverage, for up to 2 years (currently AUD $20,400 per year) as well as Australian visa application fees and a return international airfare to Australia.

Deakin University will provide the necessary resources and equipment (office, laboratory, computer, network, library access, etc.) for the duration of the visit.

Eligibility

All candidates need to satisfy the following selection criteria:

  • be a citizen of the People's Republic of China at the time of application
  • meet all Deakin admission entry requirements, including English proficiency
  • be intending to pursue a PhD in one of the priority areas identified above

To apply for CSC funding as a visiting PhD student at Deakin University, candidates must first find a supervisor to oversee their research while in Australia.

The candidates should contact the relevant School or Institute or potential supervisors directly to discuss their research topic and ensure that Deakin is willing to support their visit to Australia.

The submission deadline for visiting PhD applicants to Deakin is January 31st, 2019. The successful candidates will receive a copy of acceptance by March 1st, 2019.

Accepted candidates should then apply to CSC by April 5th, 2019.

Post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars

The China Scholarship Council and Deakin University will jointly sponsor up to 10 Post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars each year to conduct research in Deakin University for up to 12 months.

Benefits

The China Scholarship Council will provide post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars a living allowance, including overseas health coverage, for up to 12 months and cover their Australian visa application fees and a return international airfare to Australia.

Deakin University will provide the necessary resources and equipment (office, laboratory, computer, network, library access, etc.) for the duration of the visit.

Eligibility

All candidates need to satisfy the following selection criteria:

  • be a citizen of the People's Republic of China at the time of application
  • meet all Deakin admission entry requirements, including English proficiency
  • be intending to pursue a PhD in one of the priority areas identified above

To apply for CSC funding as a postdoctoral fellow or visiting scholar at Deakin University, candidates must first find a supervisor to oversee their research while in Australia.

To find a supervisor, candidates should contact the relevant School or Institute or potential supervisors directly to discuss their research topic and ensure that Deakin is willing to support their visit to Australia. A list of Deakin researchers and their contact details can be found on the University's find a researcher website.

Applicants should submit an expression of interest via email to the identified Deakin supervisor. The deadline for submitting an expression of interest for a post-doctoral research or visiting scholar position is December 12th, 2018. The successful candidates will receive a copy of a letter of invitation by January 1st, 2019. Accepted candidates should then apply to CSC by January 15th, 2019.
