The formation of an international practice scholarship was initiated by graduates and developed by the School in 2000. The Scholarship is named after Associate Professor Nick Beattie, Head of School 1992-2001 and acknowledges and honors 25 years of association that Associate Professor Beattie has with the School in his various teaching and leading capacities. Throughout this period, Associate Professor Nick Beattie remains highly respected and fondly remembered as mentor and friend to many international and Australian graduates. The Scholarship provides students of the School the opportunity of architectural practice as well as cultural insight in an international environment.
The Scholarship covers the cost of travel and makes a contribution towards living expenses of students who will be placed in a practice in East or West Malaysia or Singapore, for a period of three months from November to February. The students would have the opportunity to gain practice as well as cultural experience in an international context. Students who have completed the fourth year of the Architecture course would be selected on the basis of a combination of academic record and their commitment to architecture and the School.
The Scholarship received foundation support from a group of international alumni at a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 1 September 2000, which will allow the Scholarship to run for an initial three year period. Invitations to pledge to the Scholarship. Appreciation and thanks are offered to the following alumni members who pledged their foundation support and sponsorship to the Scholarship.
