Deakin's Bachelor of Construction Management is recognised for practice in over 50 countries. The course consists of four years of academic study and meets the requirements for professional recognition by the building profession. The Bachelor of Construction Management may also be taken as an accelerated program by taking selected units in Trimester 3, thus allowing you to complete the course in three years.
The course will help you gain employment in management positions in the construction and allied industries both in Australia and overseas. You will be provided with an excellent mix of hands-on practice and theory and integrated studies in technology and building management including: building economics and law, project management, building technology, measurement and estimation, quantity surveying and building practice.
This course is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). As a graduate of this course, you will qualify for membership of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The course develops progressively from the elementary concepts underlying planning and management of building production and technical studies through to the complexities and interrelationships of modern global construction practices. A large number of students work in industry during their courses and graduates are given opportunities to play leading roles in teams designing and managing large projects.
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Construction Management you may find employment as a construction manager, estimator, project manager or quantity surveyor in a property development or sub-contracting organisation. Opportunities also exist in the property and maintenance divisions of companies that are responsible for large property portfolios.
Deakin's Waterfront Campus is situated on the edge of the Geelong CBD on beautiful Corio Bay. It is located close to Geelong's main train station, about 50 minutes by car or train from Melbourne, and a short drive from Victoria's famous Surf Coast. The school is housed in a stunning, heritage-listed complex that has received three Australian Institute of Architects awards for conservation, merit and recycling.
Industry-based units in the course allow you to experience workplace culture and practices, explore career options and develop professional networks. You will learn about the management of small to large projects requiring broad knowledge across construction technology and processes, resource management, law, information technology, environmental management and construction economics. Construction projects need managers with good skills in: problem solving, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, teamwork and communication. This course provides you with the opportunity to develop and refine these skills with real world challenges.
At Deakin, you start learning about construction straight away and do not have to limit yourself to one specialisation. This offers graduates the option of a range of careers, as a construction project manager, estimator, contract administrator or quantity surveyor.
Deakin offers a distinctive Bachelor of Design (Architecture)/Bachelor of Construction Management combined degree followed by the Master of Architecture (Design). Graduates are likely to be offered extremely lucrative careers in the built environment field with many options in areas of architecture and project management.

Deakin has established relationships with institutions in the US, UK and Hong Kong, and many more destinations are possible. Students are usually given full credit for the study they successfully complete elsewhere.
