We have proposed one overarching research question, which is divided into two key questions and two further sub-questions.Collectively these questions form BERG's ongoing research agenda:
i) How can facilities preserve and enhance cultural values through better design?
ii) How can facilities reduce demand for natural resource consumption?
b) In what ways can facilities and the technologies within them empower people to perform at their best?
i) How can facilities improve human productivity and satisfaction levels through better design?
ii) How can facilities contribute to improved human health and safety?
We are proposing the following framework to enable multidisciplinary teams to be formed to address these questions. The "problem" is complex but its solution is conceptualised as founded in the four research domains of practice, progress, performance and people. The 4Ps each have three attributes that help define its scope. In all cases the outcomes contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between the built environment and human well-being, and hence will ultimately answer the overarching research question. The four themes of resource efficiency, industry communication, occupational health and safety, and sustainable development link the domains with other researchers within the Faculty of Arts, Education, Health & Behavioural Sciences, and Business & Law respectively.
