Guenter Lehmann came to Australia and the School of Architecture and Building in 1991. His education and professional experience--both in architecture and urban design--were gained in the United States and Canada and he taught extensively in the US before coming to Australia. He chairs units in fifth year architectural design and in urban studies, supervises post-graduate students and co-ordinates the B.Arch. program. His research interests reflect the dual nature of his teaching at the School; thus matters concerning the intersection of architecture with the city as well as the various issues in the making of architecture--historical, cultural, epistemological--are of primary interest. Other research interests range from urban form and its making, to the representation, interpretation and inventory of the urban condition and to the very question of what is regarded 'urban' in today's global cultural and intellectual environment.
