Richard Reed - Professor of Property and Real Estate

Professor Richard Reed


PhD, Queensland

Richard Reed is Professor of Property and Real Estate at Deakin University (Melbourne) His higher education has focused specifically on the property discipline, which includes a Ph.D at the University of Queensland centred on residential property markets.  His research areas are relatively broad and include sustainability, valuation, housing including reverse mortgages, GIS and the future of the property industry. Richard is a member of the Australian Property Institute (API), a member of the API Victorian Divisional Council and the API Victoria Training and Education Board.  He is also a member of RICS and sits on their Victorian Committee, as well as being secretary of the International Real Estate Committee (IRES) and a member of numerous overseas property organisations.  In 2007 he edited ‘The Valuation of Real Estate’ text (published by the API), which in 2008 was followed by ‘A Greener House’ (John Wiley & Sons, coauthored with Sara Wilkinson) and ‘Property Development 5th Edn’ (Routledge, coauthored with Sara Wilkinson).  In late 2008 he will publish the 2nd edition of ‘Reverse Mortgages’ (John Wiley & Sons).   He is co-editor of ‘The Australian and New Zealand Property Journal’ (published by the API) and editor of ‘The International Journal of Housing Markets and Analysis’ published by Emerald in the UK.  Over many years Richard Reed has gained ‘hands on’ experience and knowledge about real estate markets and property values.  His industry background is as a real estate valuer, being previously employed in both private and government firms with the focus placed on residential properties.  He has presented at many Australian and international conferences.  He also presents regularly at industry events and is widely published in the property area.
