The faculty offers a range of exciting undergraduate and postgraduate courses and conducts fundamental and applied research in its four schools - Architecture and Building, Life and Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Information Technology.
All science faculties believe in the value of research and teaching, yet there are differences in emphasis and approach to core activities. So what makes us different? The Faculty of Science and Technology at Deakin University has distinctive objectives, expressed through four core values aligned to teaching and learning, research and research training, community engagement and staff empowerment.
We aim to:
We provide a stimulating and supportive environment for study, in which students have ample opportunities to interact with staff and be exposed to the cutting edge of research relevant to their courses.
In the latest Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) exercise, the faculty received an ERA rank of 3 "performance at world standard" in Architecture, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Ecology and Environmental Science and Management. We also contributed to a rank of 3 in Clinical Sciences with the Faculty of Health and in Mechanical Engineering with the Institute of Technology Research and Innovation (ITRI). We received a rank of 4 "above world standards" in Analytical Chemistry and Fisheries Sciences, and with ITRI in Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. We received an ERA top rank of 5 "outstanding - well above world standard" in Zoology and contributed to a rank 5 in Materials Engineering with ITRI.
In this context, the faculty is a great place to start an academic career. Early career academics are mentored in teaching, research, entrepreneurial activity and interactions with Government.
Courses are offered at the following campuses: Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, Geelong Waterfront Campus and Warrnambool Campus. This blend of regional and city campuses enables Deakin to offer a unique range of opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate study and for staff sabbaticals.
