The flagship of the School is the combined degree in Architecture and Construction Management. This program of study blends the two degrees of Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Construction Management into a continuous framework. The course is available in either normal (six years) or accelerated (five years) patterns depending on your choice to study continuously or have summer vacations.
The course also leads to the award of a Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) degree provided at least 50% of the units in that course were taken (i.e. not exempted) and the equivalent subjects were completed. The normal time frame of six years is achieved only because of the high proportion of shared units involved in both disciplines. This is difficult if not impossible for other universities to replicate, and has proved a major benefit flowing from the organization and operation of the School and its staffing profile.
Detailed course structure of both the normal and accelerated courses
The combined course satisfies the educational requirements of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) and the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA).
Graduates from the combined degree are in high demand, particularly from major contractors who have long seen the benefit of project managers who possess a good understanding of the design process and the way architects "think". As a result, graduates of the combined degree are usually in very responsible roles and high salaries, but demand outstrips supply.
