Bachelor of Construction Management

The course

Bachelor of Construction Management

Geelong Waterfront Campus.

Do you want to study a course with an enviable employment rate after graduation, lucrative career options and the chance to work overseas? Then Deakin has the answer. The Bachelor of Construction Management degree is recognised for practice in over 50 countries and soughtafter by potential employers in the private and public sector, including some of Australia’s biggest and most renowned construction companies.

Location

Deakin’s Waterfront Campus is situated on the edge of the Geelong CBD on the beautiful Corio Bay. It is located just five minutes from the central train station, 50 minutes by car or train from Melbourne, and only 15 minutes’ drive from Victoria’s famous Surf Coast. The school is housed in a stunning complex that has received three Royal Australian Institute of Architecture awards for conservation, merit and recycling.

Hands-on learning

Industry-based units in the course allow students to experience workplace culture and practices, explore career options and develop professional networks. Students learn about all aspects of their future careers including construction site management, machinery, scheduling and budgeting.

Why Deakin?

At Deakin, students start learning about construction straight away and do not have to limit themselves to one specialisation. This offers graduates the option of a range of careers, as a construction project manager, estimator, contract administration and quantity surveyor. The course includes honours research by invitation in the final year as an alternative to elective studies and the opportunity to study over summer and finish one year early.

Industry Accreditation

Deakin’s Construction Management course is fully accredited internationally by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which is a professional body of over 120,000 members worldwide. As a Chartered Surveyor, graduates have a ‘passport’ to work in a wide range of countries. Deakin’s courses are also fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building, the Australian Institute of Building, Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, and the Victorian Building Commission.

Combined course

Students can study Construction Management as part of a double degree with Facilities Management (one year extra) or Design (Architecture) (two years extra), the latter incorporating a Master of Architecture in the final year. Students can also exit early with one of the base degrees, or even extend their studies by switching to a double degree.

Summer studies

Students have the opportunity to study over summer to accelerate course completion. This option also allows them to lighten the normally full-time load so that students can gain employment during their course. Units offered over summer are all online to give students more flexible access to the course.

Exchange

Exchange opportunities are available at interstate and international universities for up to two semesters. Deakin has established relationships with universities in the US, UK and Hong Kong, as well as Adelaide and Sydney, and many more destinations are possible. Students are given full credit for the study they successfully complete elsewhere, so there is no delay to securing their Deakin degree.
