Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics)

The course

Bachelor of Engineering

Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds and off-campus.

Electronics are everywhere; their uses range from keeping the refrigerator cool to helping launch a rocket into space. A degree in Electronics at Deakin provides the foundation for a successful and rewarding career in the field. The course is informed by industry leaders to ensure it keeps pace with technological innovations and continues to produce highly-employable graduates.

A broad start

Engineering students at Deakin University do not have to choose a specialism before they enter their course. Engineering students undertake common subjects in their first year before they choose to specialise in Electronics, Robotics and Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering. This format allows students to make a more informed decision and gain a broad base of knowledge in engineering.

Hands-on learning

Students design and build electronic systems that might operate a robot or measure and control the temperature of a room. The hands-on focus provides an exciting learning experience and builds on students’ theoretical knowledge. Two-week professional practice units also give students an edge by providing opportunities to visit workplaces, gain practical experience, learn from industry leaders and build valuable networks.

Teaching and facilities

Small classes and accessible lecturers help students get the best out of their university education and offer a friendly learning environment. Students also have access to fully-equipped laboratories and the opportunity to work with leading researchers in the Geelong Technology Precinct, the emerging technology hub in Geelong.

Flexible learning

Deakin is one of only two universities in Australia that offer Mechatronics and Robotics off-campus using an online service. Flexible study options enable courses to be completed in conjunction with career, family and travel plans.

Combined course
