Bachelor of Information Technology (Multimedia Technology)

Multimedia Technology is all around us; when we access the internet, use an ATM or visit a movie theatre. In the Multimedia Technology course at Deakin, students learn to design and author multimedia information, create electronic documents, design and manipulate databases and information systems, and develop project management skills. Leading information technology companies including IBM Australia, Telstra and Microsoft contribute to Deakin’s courses as part of the Academic Advisory Board to ensure courses are relevant and produce highly-employable graduates.
Hands-on learning is emphasised through extensive project work and partnerships with leading multimedia authorities. Students learn how to design and author multimedia information combining audio, image, video, graphics and text. In addition, the Industry-Based Learning program gives undergraduates an opportunity to work full-time in industry as part of their degree. Many students take up internships with leading multimedia companies to gain experience in the workplace and generate contacts in the industry.
Small classes and accessible lecturers help students get the best out of their university education and offer a friendly learning environment. Deakin students have access to well-equipped computer laboratories and the opportunity to take CISCO units for a head start towards CISCO certification.
Deakin’s Information Technology courses are structured to provide flexibility for students. One third of the course provides a solid foundaton in Information Technology, another third offers electives in Information Technology or other disciplines, and the final third focuses on a specialism of IT Security, Games Design and Development, Computer Software and Development, Multimedia Technology or Web and Mobile Technology.
Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Business Information Systems/ Bachelor of Information Technology.
Information Technology (Computer Science and Software Development), Information Technology (Games Design and Development), Information Technology (IT Security) and Business Information Systems. A Multimedia Technology major sequence is also available within the Bachelor of Information Technology and the Bachelor of Science.
