The course

Bachelor of Information Technology (IT Security)

Melbourne Campus at Burwood and off campus.

Information Technology security is increasingly important in today’s technology-based workplace. Deakin’s Bachelor of Information Technology (IT Security) provides students with skills in securing data and data communications as well as investigating, analysing and providing solutions to computer crime that are highly sought-after by employers. The course offers students skills in problem solving, communication and technical capabilities related to Information Technology security as well as providing them with information about the legal, regulatory and ethical contexts in which these skills are used.

The course assists students in completing the material required to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.

Hands-on learning

Students address real-life information technology security problems and have the opportunity to provide solutions for problems posed by external organisations. In addition, the Industry-Based Learning program gives undergraduates an opportunity to work full-time in industry as part of their degree. Many students take up internships with leading information technology companies to gain experience in the workplace and generate valuable contacts in the industry.

Teaching and facilities

Small classes and accessible lecturers help students get the best out of their university education and offer a friendly learning environment. Deakin students also have access to well-equipped computer laboratories and the opportunity to take CISCO units for a head start towards CISCO certification.

Flexibility

Deakin’s Information Technology courses are structured to provide flexibility for students. One third of the course provides a solid foundaton in Information Technology, another third offers electives in Information Technology or other disciplines, and the final third focuses on a specialism of IT Security, Games Design and Development, Computer Software and Development or Multimedia Technology.

Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Business Information Systems/Bachelor of Information Technology.
