The Science course at Deakin is flexible and broad, giving students comprehensive and transferable skills to meet the future challenges of established and emerging science and technology industries. Graduates can enter careers in science-related industries, government and education, or pursue further education or research opportunities.
Science is a practical discipline where teamwork, critical thinking and problem solving are crucial to finding creative solutions to everyday problems and our understanding of the world in which we live. Students gain experience through innovative practical programs undertaken in first-class laboratories. Professional practice units in the course have also been designed to enable students to develop flexible job skills and an understanding of the broader role of science in society. Approved major sequences include Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Forensic Biology, Information Technology, Mathematical Modelling, Multimedia Technology, Nanotechnology, Biological Chemistry, Chemistry, Psychology, Earth Science and Zoology.
Deakin Science students learn in a modern teaching environment and gain hands-on experience by participating in laboratory, field and project work. They have access to first-class infrastructure and facilities.
The Academic Advisory Board includes science and technology industry leaders who help inform and update the curriculum to ensure the course remains relevant and continues to produce highly sought-after graduates.
Science at Deakin is available as a combined degree course with Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Information Technology, Law and Teaching (Science). These double degrees offer a broad range of career opportunities in fascinating and diverse areas.
A flexible course structure gives students the opportunity to pursue at least one major study stream in an area of interest with the possibility of a second major stream. This flexibility provides students with transferable skills for greater employment opportunities in the diverse field of science.
