Civil Engineers are responsible for the design, construction and project management of roads, airports and railways; water supply and sewerage systems; water resources management; and buildings and other infrastructures.
Civil Engineering at Deakin covers the broad range of civil engineering disciplines including engineering materials, structural engineering, water engineering, geotechnical engineering and transport engineering.
You’ll learn to create the systems which are integral to our community – taking all of our community needs into consideration and then building these facilities– in a sustainable manner.
Engineering students undertake common subjects in their first year before they choose to specialise in Civil, Electronics, Mechanical, or Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. This format means that you can make a more informed decision about your future career and it also allows you to gain a broad base of knowledge in engineering.
This new major is designed to provide students with practical industry knowledge in the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure facilities such as roads, bridges, railways, water supply systems, buildings and facilities. It also gives students the opportunity to tailor their electives to complete a sub-major in Water Engineering, Construction Management or Infrastructure Management.
Geelong is experiencing rapid growth and expansion and will continue to do so for at least the next decade. This course is based at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds, in the hub of this rapidly growing region - in terms of population and infrastructure. Students will conduct numerous site visits and field trips, to gain practical hands-on experience and real industry knowledge.
Civil Engineering students have access to state-of-the-art technology at Deakin, including facilities at the Geelong Technology Precinct, such as the Material Testing Laboratory and the Water Quality Laboratory.
Deakin has strong links with industry. These partnerships enable students to gain valuable work experience and industry-based learning. Students will utilise existing facilities in the region available among industry partners, in the areas of soil testing, concrete technology and road construction.
