Deakin’s Games Design and Development course provides students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in this dynamic and fast-growing field. They will learn about game simulation and modelling, software engineering, human/computer interaction, game production, graphic design, and music and sound effects through a combination of theoretical and hands-on teaching. Leading information technology companies including IBM Australia, Telstra and Microsoft, as well as games companies such as Firelight Technologies, help inform the course to ensure it is relevant and graduates are highly-employable.

Students learn about games in an interactive studio environment where they can develop team-based projects or test their own skills on the latest gaming technology. Facilities include the state-of-the-art Motion Capture Lab where Games students can work with equipment used in the production of movies including ‘Happy Feet’and ‘Lord of the Rings’. In addition, the Industry-Based Learning program gives undergraduates an opportunity to work full-time in industry as part of their degree. Many students take up internships with leading games, entertainment and information technology companies.
Small classes and accessible lecturers help students get the best out of their university education and offer a friendly learning environment. Deakin students also have access to well-equipped computer laboratories and the opportunity to take CISCO units for a head start towards CISCO certification.
Deakin’s Information Technology courses are structured to provide flexibility for students. One third of the course provides a solid foundaton in Information Technology, another third offers electives in Information Technology or other disciplines, and the final third focuses on a specialism of IT Security, Games Design and Development, Computer Software and Development, Multimedia Technology or Web and Mobile Technology.
