Re-Enrolment Civil

Please note that the structure of the Engineering course has changed for the majority of existing students and for all new students who are commencing in 2012. The changes have been made in consultation with Engineers Australia and are as follows:

Students who will be enrolled in 1st year in 2nd OR 3rd year and 4th year part time students in 2012 will follow new structure in 2012. Students who will be enrolled in 2nd OR 3rd year or part time in 2012 will also follow new structure. Where it is possible students must follow new structure. Students who have already completed electives or who have been given credit for prior learning or have already completed SEB421 and may not have room for new core units will need to contact Course Advisors for advice.

Students who will be in 4th year in 2012 (who have completed 24 credit points or more and who intend to complete in 2012) will continue following existing course maps. There should be no need to exceed the 32 credit point requirement. If 4th year students have an elective space available they may like to choose either one of the new core units, SEV323, SEV328 or one of the Recommended Electives, SET401 or SET402 OR a Work Integrated Learning unit (IBL or Internship) or a general elective.

CHANGES IN NEW COURSE STRUCTURE

  • Removal of 2 elective units
  • Introduction of 2 new core units:
    • SEV328 Water and Wastewater Treatment to be offered in 2012 and will replace elective
    • SEV323 Steel Structures to be offered in 2012 (previously Design of Steel Structures) and will replace elective

  • SEJ442 Engineering Project 2 (1 credit point) will be offered for the last time in 2012 and will be replaced by SEJ446 Project B (2 credit point) from 2013. It is essential for 2nd and 3rd year students to have enough room for the new 2 credit point Engineering Project B unit SEJ446 from 2013 onwards.
  • Removal of SEB421 as a core unit (will be offered for the last time in 2012) to make room for 2 credit point Project SEJ446
  • Name Changes of existing units:
    • SED102 Introduction to Engineering Design and CAD will change name to Engineering Graphics and CAD in 2012
    • SEB322 Research and Design Project Management has been replaced by SEB324 Project Management in 2012
    • SEV354 Transportation Engineering to be offered for first time in 2012
    • SEV353 Design of Concrete Structures will change name to Reinforced Concrete Structures in 2012
    • SEV217 Introduction to Civil Engineering will change name to Engineering Geology and Surveying in 2012
  • Units to be offered for the first time in 2012:
    • SEV453 Advanced Structural Analysis (formerly Structural Analysis)
    • SEV454 Civil Engineering Design 1
    • SEV455 Civil Engineering Design 2

  • 2 Electives will remain in the new course structure and will be as follows:
    • SET401 Advanced Topics in Engineering 1 (Recommended Elective)
    • SET402 Advanced Topics in Engineering 2 (Recommended Elective)
