After you apply

The Faculty will contact the student via their Deakin email address to advice of the outcome of the expression of interest application. Students will receive feedback on the application within four weeks of the submission deadline.

We are committed to ensuring students undertaking IBL or Internships have successful industry placements. To meet this end, we have developed a series of ‘face to face and “on-line” Modules designed to prepare students for industry roles.

If your expression of interest application is successful (you meet all the requirements and your resume is up to standard), we will then help you increase your chances of securing a placement by giving you the opportunity to undertake the face to face and online Real World Modules Series Workshops designed for this purpose. Participation in these workshops is by invitation only and is limited to students whose application to be part of the WIL program has been approved.

Please note that being admitted to the WIL pool does not guarantee an industry placement and students are expected to source their own placements. The Faculty does not search for internship placements for students and IBL placements are very limited, however the Real World Modules Series provides the students with the necessary tools to a successful placement search and where possible the Faculty will endeavour to assist you.

A limited number of placements are offered directly to the Faculty each Trimester. The Faculty will make a short list of students from the WIL Pool who match the employer requirements and forward their resumes to the employer for further screening and interviews. Employers have complete discretion in selecting a suitable candidate.

Need help finding a placement?

A limited number of opportunities are advertised on Deakin University’s student employment website JobShop.

The Deakin Careers unit in the Division of Student Life produces an excellent booklet called Internships and Work Experience. This is a great resource for students thinking about the possibilities of an internship.

Other publications such as the annual Graduate Opportunities (available from the Division of Student Life on campus or good bookshops everywhere) may also be helpful. There are also a number of web sites listing internship opportunities in Australia and overseas.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
