The Faculty of Science and Technology at Deakin offers many opportunities for students to experience the workplace throughout their course of study. You may choose subjects which take you into the field, place you in industry or offer an internship. We aim to produce high calibre graduates who are employable and have a broad understanding of the career opportunities available in their chosen field.
Industry-based Learning (IBL) involves working full or part time in industry as part of your degree program and plays a very valuable role in preparing for graduate employment. As a student in the IBL Program, you would be given an opportunity to apply and consolidate knowledge gained at university, experience workplace culture and work practices, explore career options and develop a professional network. Find out more about the Faculty's IBL Program.....
As an Environment student, you would undertake a subject which includes a one week professional practice placement at a relevant organisation, a professional development workshop which includes identification and development of personal and employment-related skills, such as job and resume preparation and interview techniques. Other employment-related areas include equal opportunity, awareness of cultural differences, occupational health and safety, risk management, and performance evaluation.
You would be given the opportunity to experience fieldwork in our Environment fieldwork subjects. They are designed to give you unique field experiences ranging from one to five days. Fieldwork and hands-on experience is not only critical in helping to develop an understanding of your chosen area, but is also great fun.
