Biomolecular Sciences

Biomolecular Sciences

The Biomolecular Sciences research group is jointly based in The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Melbourne campus at Burwood and in The Centre for Biotechnology, Chemistry and Systems Biology (CBCSB) at the Geelong campus at Waurn Ponds. The group's aim is to carry out high quality research in the area of molecular and cellular biology to solve both fundamental and practical problems. Research in CCMB and in CBCSB is underpinned by funding from the Australian Research Council, National Health and Medical Research Council and National Institute of Health (USA) as well as from industry.

Research in the Biomolecular Sciences group provides outstanding opportunities for Honours and postgraduate students in programs of international standard supervised by high caliber academic staff. The excellent research infrastructure within CCMB and CBCSB attracts international research visitors and students and provides an outstanding research environment. CCMB also houses a Biotech company, Alchemy Biosciences, that provides additional opportunities for research student projects. CCMB is part of the recently established Deakin University Special Research Centre for Molecular and Medical Research of which Professor Mercer is co-director. Professor Barrow is the director of the CBCSB University Special Research Centre.
