Molecular Responses to Plant Stress Group

Home | Projects | Staff

This group, which is located in the Science Building at the Waurn Ponds Campus, is investigating the responses of plants to environmental stresses including ultraviolet radiation, pathogenic organisms, drought and salinity. The long term aim of this biotechnological research is to genetically engineer plants with increased resistance to these various factors, an objective with important economic implications for the agricultural and horticultural industries, as well as for reforestation. Members of the group have initiated a number of national, international and industrial collaborative interactions with scientists in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain and the United States. Currently, the research involved is supported by ARC Discovery and Linkage grants, funding from the Department of Environment and Water Resources and Deakin University.
