This research group examines, from a wide range of perspectives, the interactions of animals, plants and microorganisms with their environment. Major research themes include animal and plant physiology and ecology, animal behaviour, migration and nutritional ecology, evolution of vision and visual signals and physiological and behavioural responses of animals towards their natural environment. The relatively new field of sensory ecology is a major theme. Members of this group are recognised internationally for their research on fundamental questions in biology and interrelations with the environment. Our research is based on a strong and continuing engagement with the local community, industry, government and other research institutions and a commitment to the development of new partnerships both nationally and internationally.
