Palaeobiology and Global Change

John has studied the physicochemical characteristics of natural waters, including their trace
metal speciation, nutrient status and environmental flow needs. He has worked on funded
projects in Victoria, Tasmania and Papua New Guinea for the dairy industry, mining companies
and environmental agencies and has served on National, State and regional environmental
management and professional bodies. His work has been recognised by a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the Victorian Government, an individual Achievement Award from
Glenelg-Hopkins Catchment Management Authority and an Australia Day Award by
Warrnambool City Council.

Research interests

  1. chemistry of natural waters
  2. estuary dynamics and ecology
  3. palaeoecology
