Built Environment Research Group

The Built Environment Research Group (BERG) was made an interim university research priority area in 2006, and had been a faculty research priority area for about five years prior. BERG's activities encompass all active researchers in the School of Architecture and Building, and collaborators in other Schools, Faculties, Institutions and Industry. BERG has highlighted a broad and unique focus for its activities by undertaking research into the linkages between the built environment and human well-being. The ultimate objective of the built environment is to support people, which can take a number of forms including shelter, security, creativity, comfort, productivity, satisfaction, inspiration, health and safety. The diverse and interrelated characteristics of the built environment require a multi-disciplinary approach. We have proposed one overarching research question: What are the defining relationships between the built environment and human well-being?
