| After graduation, James worked in several small to medium-sized practices in Geelong, Melbourne, Queensland, and London. In the UK, James indulged his particular interest in Arts and Crafts architecture and this influence continues to pervade his holistic approach to balancing humane and environmental imperatives in architecture. James rejoined Deakin as a part-time lecturer in 1987 whilst building his own house. In 1993 he assumed a full-time lecturing role. Research interests
