Engineering researcher selected as 2011 Fresh Scientist

Frank Will, School of Engineering, was announced as one of this year’s group of 16 Fresh Scientists for his research into improving fuel consumption in motor vehicles through an invention that uses uses waste heat to reduce friction by warming the engine oil.

Fresh Science is an annual event that showcases the work of selected early-career researchers from around Australia. Organisers say the selected researchers are brought together for a “boot camp in science communication”, with the selected scientists participating in a range of events. As part of his commitments, Frank travelled to Canberra as part of the Science meets Parliament program where he met and discussed his research with politicians.

The Faculty Marketing Group also assisted with the hosting of a Fresh Science event for secondary students at Deakin’s Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. Students from around the Geelong region heard about the exciting possibilities of science first-hand from Frank and four other 2011 Fresh Scientists.
