Deakin establishes link with university in New Zealand

LONG term collaboration between robotics researchers at Deakin University and the University of Canterbury in New Zealand is expected to result from a fellowship awarded to Ben Horan.

The Deakin PhD student has been awarded an Australian Government-funded Endeavour Research Fellowship to spend six months in the latter half of 2008 at the university.

He said that during this time he would work with the Robotics, Control and Instrumentation Group at the New Zealand university.

“I am visiting the University of Canterbury in the hopes of initiating collaboration with our own Intelligent Systems Research Lab,” Mr Horan said.

“I am really looking forward to the opportunity to benefit from the experience and knowledge held by one of New Zealand’s most prestigious universities.”

The Endeavour Fellowship Committee and Deakin aims to establish long term collaboration and an effective bilateral research relationship as a result of the visit.
