Completing a Work Integrated Learning placement is a life-long rewarding experience. Not only does it help connect theory to practice, it allows students gain real world experience. Hear from some of our current and past WIL students about their experiences.
IBL & Internship Student Profile - Biomedical Science
Ellie O'Connor completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the Waurn Ponds campus, Geelong. She completed an internship placement at East Grampians Health Services. During her placement she worked at various departments/areas of the hospital; Including pathology, radiology, clinical outcomes of testing in diagnostic biochemistry, blood bank and haematology. She is currently pursuing a Medical degree at Deakin University.
Rachel Frederick completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the Waurn Ponds campus, Geelong. She undertook a 3-month IBL placement at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in Port Fairy, her IBL placement was chemistry focused and she was working in the Technical Development lab where she got familiar with the manufacturing environment. She is currently pursuing a Medical degree at Deakin University.

Darcy Holden completed a Bachelor of Construction Management at the Waterfront campus, Geelong. He undertook a 3-month project management focused IBL placement at Brookfield Multiplex Constructions in Melbourne. He has now graduated and is employed by Brookfield Multiplex.
Jake Rossi is completing a Bachelor of Information Technology student majoring in software development at the Waurn Ponds campus, Geelong. He completed an internship placement at Giraffy in South Geelong. During his placement he worked as a web developer and managed to secure a full time position with Giraffy.
Gary Hazelwood is Giraffy's managing director and was Jake's industry supervisor.
Patrick Scoble completed a Bachelor of Information Technology majoring in software development and web systems at the Burwood campus. He undertook a 3-month IBL placement at Castle Software Australia in Melbourne. The IBL placement focused on database systems and development, maintenance, and support of software. He has now graduated and is currently working full time.
Peter Fallon is Castle Software Australia's director and was Patrick's industry supervisor.
Tina Konstantinidis is currently completing a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences (Wildlife and Conservation Biology) at the Burwood campus. She undertook a 6-month IBL placement with Parks Victoria in Traralgon as a park ranger. She is still working for Parks Victoria while continuing her studies.
Sarthak Desai Is currently completing a Master of Information Technology (Professional) at the Burwood campus.
He undertook a 3-month IBL placement at Retail Directions in Melbourne. He worked as an analyst programmer while on placement and has been able to secure a full time position at Retail Directions.
