LEAP - Demystifying the links at Deakin
On Friday, 7 June 2013, Deakin University hosted a LEAP event at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, with over 130 students from various secondary schools across the Geelong Region attending for a day of fun activities.
The Learn Experience Access Professions initiative, funded under the Commonwealth's Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program, is about demystifying the links between school, university and professions. It aims to help students learn more about their career options in selected professions, and the role of university study in attaining their career goals. This particular event focussed on the professions of Engineering and IT, and students participated in activities such as Curiosity Bot, Crash Test Dummies, Cool Chemistry and a Games and Mobile Application workshop.
School of IT Lecturer, Sophie McKenzie, who coordinated the event and also provided the Games and Mobile Application Workshop said, "Feedback from the day confirmed it was a great success, with many teachers asking if they can come back again next year."
