Student Poster Prizes
3. William Singleton
William Singleton is currently undertaking a PhD within the School of LES at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, under the super of Dr Sharon La Fontaine and Prof Julian Mercer. William recently attended the ASBMB ComBio2007 meeting (the annual combined meeting of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), the Australia and New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology (ANZSCDB) and the Australian Society of Plant Scientists (ASPS)), at the Sydney Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, September 23-26, 2007. This meeting is the largest annual meeting of molecular and cell biologists from around Australia and New Zealand with several high profile overseas speakers in attendance. William presented a poster describing his work on the redox regulation of two important human proteins (ATP7A and ATP7B) that mediate copper transport within and out of cells. Following an extraordinary level of interest in his poster by many people and extended interrogation by the judging panel, Will was one of five Poster Prize winners. William is currently completing this body of work for publication in a high profile international journal. Congratulations Will and keep up the good work. These exciting preliminary results obtained by Will also played a key role in the recent success of Sharon La Fontaine and Julian Mercer in obtaining one of the University's three NHMRC grants.
