Higher Degrees by Research 2010

A warm welcome to the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment’s Higher Degrees by Research brochure.

Deakin University’s Strategic Plan (Delivering Effective Partnerships) identifies ‘research that makes a difference’ as one of our core commitments. Our goal is to be in the top third of Australian universities in terms of research performance and our Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students are central to this ambition.

In the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, we have an exciting range of research opportunities that are focused on national priorities and on partnerships with industry and government. In this way, we ensure that our research activities address contemporary issues of national and global relevance, ‘making a difference’ in the communities we serve.

At Deakin, HDR students will receive supervision and training from researchers at the cutting edge of their discipline. We pride ourselves in the quality of the supervision and training that our HDR students receive. With over 100 PhD graduates in 2009 in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment alone, our HDR students are part of a large and vibrant community.

I hope that you enjoy reading this brochure and get a taste of the exciting range of research opportunities available to HDR students within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment at Deakin. I look forward to welcoming you to Deakin in the very near future!
