Careers in Information Technology

Almost all jobs now use some form of IT for business processes and management, creative output of communication. Deakin IT programs give students the skills to capitalise on this fundamental change. IT undergraduate degrees are available in a range of areas, all with interesting career outcomes.

Information Technology

The constant need to develop, manage and use information strategically means that IT professionals will have access to employment n just about every Australian industry, including all levels of government. For example graduates could be employed as an analyst programmer, business consultant, internet developer, information systems auditor, network planner/administrator, project leader, research and development officer. As skills develop career opportunities and choices may arise, such as chief information officer, chief knowledge director, director of information technology, information technology manager or general manager.

Computer Science and Software Development

Graduates find employment in the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems, databases and computer networks in commercial, industrial and administrative environments. Other areas our graduates are skilled to work in include systems programming, software development, data communications management, maintenance of computer systems and development of information systems.

Games Design and Development

Graduates will have the skills to work in a range of information technology jobs, including:

Multimedia Technology

Multimedia technology impacts all media, with professionals working across the public and private sectors in roles as diverse as media productions, designing, advertising and media marketing. As rapid technological change occurs in industries, multimedia technology specialists will be in most organisations, as well as functioning as consultants and independent practitioners. Roles in the area include:
