From Trimester 1, 2012, Red and Blue Permit zones will be combined into General Parking Permit zones. Deakin University car park lines have been repainted white in preparation for this, and new signage is being erected to inform drivers of these changes.
Red and Blue Parking Permits will be valid in the General Parking Permit zones until 29 February 2012.
If you have any questions about these changes, please email parking@deakin.edu.au.
Availability of Parking
It is not possible to accurately predict daily demand for parking at each campus, therefore a permit cannot guarantee that a bay will be available. Locating a parking space can often be difficult, particularly at the beginning of trimesters or during exams.
Alternative transport is recommended, including car pooling and public transport. Please see Metlink Melbourne or Deakin University's TravelSmart web page.
Parking Infringements
Parking Infringement Notices may be issued for any vehicles detected parked illegally, including vehicles parked outside marked bays. For more information please see Parking Infringements (182 KB).
Road Safety Rules
Deakin University roads and car parks are governed by the Road Safety Road Rules 2009, as are all Victorian roads, and by Regulation 6.1(6) - Use of Vehicle and Parking. You must obey all road rules, including speed limits and parking restrictions.
Deakin staff and students are now able to access a free online car pool matching service to find people with similar travel needs and are interested in sharing a trip to Deakin's campuses. From Trimester 1, 2012, the east end of Car Park 6, Level 2 at the Melbourne Burwood Campus will be a designated parking area for car pooling vehicles.
Each Deakin University Campus has several parking permit zones identified by signs. Some zones operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please read the signs to avoid fines.
General Permits (White bays)
You need a parking permit to park in general parking permit zones during the weekdays and all other permit zones at all times. Limited short-term parking spaces (e.g. 1/4, 1/2 and 2 hour) which don't require permits are located at all campuses. You can park without a permit in the general parking permit zones after 4.30 pm weekdays and all weekend. Daily and hourly permits can be purchased for the general parking areas.
For more information please see Parking Permit Zones (115 KB).
Reserved Permits (Orange bays)
Orange permit zoned areas at the Melbourne Burwood Campus and the Geelong Waterfront Campus have restricted access. An Orange parking permit allows you to park in this area at your home campus at any time, subject to exceptions and conditions. The permit also allows you to park in general permit zones at other campuses.
For current information about reserved parking please see Reserved Parking (153 KB).
Disabled / Accessible Permits
Vehicles parked in disabled parking bays must display a Category 1 Disabled Persons Parking Permit issued by a local council. For further information see VicRoads - Victoria Disabled Persons Parking.
Resident Permits
Student resident car park zones can only be used by students who live on campus and have a valid resident parking permit. For further information please see Resident Parking (149 KB).
A complete list of parking fees and charges, and information about where to obtain and how to pay for parking permits, can be found in Fees and Charges (207 KB).
Full-time and part-time staff can purchase Triple Trimester or Trimester permits by salary sacrifice. Please download the salary sacrifice form (25 KB) and take it to the Cashier for processing.
Deakin University does not issue refunds.
Cycling to Deakin is an attractive transport option, particularly during the busy first weeks of Trimester when finding a parking bay can be difficult. A number of projects are underway to assist staff and students to ride to campus. Find out more on Deakin TravelSmart's walking and cycling page.
Deakin provides a shuttle bus service between the Geelong Waterfront and Geelong Waurn Ponds Campuses Monday to Friday from 7.30 am to 8.10 pm. This provides Waterfront based staff and students with the option of parking at the Waurn Ponds Campus (including the free car park) and travelling free on the Intercampus Bus Service direct to the Waterfront Campus. Please see the website for more information.
Faculties and Divisions are issued with a limited number of daily permits free of charge for 'official visitors' each year. Additional permits can be purchased from FMSD.
Casual day visitors must purchase daily parking permits from the Parking Permit Vending machines in car parks or near campus entrances. Please note the Parking Fees and Charges (207 KB).
Please note that there is no on-campus parking for visitors to the Geelong Waterfront Campus unless special arrangements have been made. Information about car parking in the surrounding area is available at at http://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/community/parking
For more information on visitor parking, please visit the Deakin University Visitors website.
You must obtain permission to use Deakin roads or car parks for a racing or training event. For further information, please see Event and Visit Management Manual (Deakin staff only).
