Parking at Deakin

Parking Permits

2013 Parking Permits are available for purchase at the cashiers office from Monday 18 February, 2013

Deakin University operates a Triple Trimester system. To this end parking permits are required throughout the year with the exception of:

  • The ten days immediately after Christmas Day
  • Orientation Week: the week immediately prior to Trimester 1
  • The first week of Trimester 1
  • The Easter break (From Good Friday to Easter Tuesday inclusive)
  • Any other day that the University is not working, i.e. National Public Holiday's (please note the University remains open for all state public holiday's)
  • These exceptions only apply to the General Parking Permit Zones. All other Permit Zones are regulated all year round.

Availability of Parking
It is not possible to accurately predict daily demand for parking at each campus, therefore a permit cannot guarantee that a bay will be available. Locating a parking space can often be difficult, particularly at the beginning of trimesters or during exams.

Alternative transport is recommended, including cycling, carpooling and public transport. Please visit Deakin University's TravelSmart web page.

New! Purchase permits online for Salary Sacrfice

Salary sacrifice nominations for your parking permit will be done online in 2013. Your available permits and payroll deduction options will be displayed automatically once you log into the parking permit system.

Parking permits purchased using the salary sacrifice option will be posted to your nominated address. The system will issue you with a printable receipt which can be displayed while you await delivery of your permit in the mail.

Parking Fees

Daily and Hourly Permits
Daily and hourly permits can be purchased from a ticket machine. Ticket machines are located in each car parking area.

The fees from 1 January 2013 for casual parking permits are:

  • $1.50 per hour
  • $6.00 per day

Have you received a Parking Infringement Notice?
Parking Infringement Notices may be issued for any vehicles detected parking illegally, including vehicles parked outside marked bays. Instructions for paying infringements are noted on the reverse side on the notice.

The person served with the infringement notice, or person acting on his or her behalf, may apply to have the decision to serve the infringement notice internally reviewed by the enforcement agency under the Act. All requests for internal review must be in writing and sent to:

Geelong Intercampus Shuttle Bus Service

Our Geelong Intercampus shuttle bus service has increased in 2013 with a second bus now operating between Monday to Friday from 6.45am through to 8.45pm. To find out more visit the following website.

Park and Ride at Geelong

From 4 February 2013, a Park and Ride service will commence from the Barwon Valley Activity Centre, Barwon Heads Rd, Belmont (opposite Kmart). Deakin students and staff are authorised to park in the designated parking area at this location free of charge.

The Deakin shuttle buses will be servicing this car park Monday to Friday from 7am. The shuttle is a direct bus service to the Geelong Campuses from this site and is available to Deakin students and staff and is free. For more information, including timetables see intercampus bus.

Bike hubs and secure bike cages

Ride your bike to Uni. We now have exciting end of trip facilities at Waurn Ponds and the Waterfront campuses and coming soon to Warrnambool and Burwood. Park your bike under cover, have a refreshing shower and utilise the convenient lockers all under the one roof. Find bike riding information for each of the following campuses on the walking and cycling webpage.

New in 2013 at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus, two end of trip bike hubs have been constructed providing secure bike parking, showers and lockers at REACH and the GTP. Visit the Bike Cage for more information on gaining access to use our bike hubs and cages.

Carpooling to Deakin

Deakin staff and students are now able to access a free online carpool matching service to find people with similar travel needs and are interested in sharing a trip to Deakin's campuses. 

Public Transport

Each of the four campuses at Deakin are accessible by several forms of public transport including buses and trains. For further information, including timetables visit the Public Transport webpage.

Visitors

Faculties and Divisions are issued with a limited number of daily permits for 'official visitors' each year. Additional permits can be purchased from Campus Services Division.

Casual day visitors must purchase daily parking permits from the Parking Permit Vending machines in car parks or near campus entrances. Please note the Parking Fees and Charges. (129 KB)

Please note that there is no on-campus parking for visitors to the Geelong Waterfront Campus unless special arrangements have been made. Information about car parking in the surrounding area is available at at http://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/community/parking
