How to connect to the Deakin videoconferencing bridge

Introductory information

The videoconferencing bridge is a piece of equipment that allows multiple participants to be 'bridged' together into one conference. The video conference bridge is commonly referred to as an MCU (Multipoint Control Unit).

There are two types of participants;

  • Video participant: A video participant is someone who is using a videoconferencing system to connect to the bridge
  • Audio participant: An audio participant is someone who is using a telephone (landline or mobile phone) to connect to the bridge

What you will need before attempting a connection to Deakin

You will need to be familiar with the operation of your organisation’s videoconference equipment. Contact the support personnel within your organisation if you are not.

You will need to know whether your videoconference with Deakin is ‘scheduled’ or uses a ‘Virtual Meeting Point’, and you will need to know the numeric ID number or VMP number. Numeric ID numbers are in the range 10200-10299 while VMP numbers are in the range 36900-36999.

If your videoconference is scheduled, you will need to know the time at which it is scheduled, and be aware of time zone differences. VMPs are available for use 24 hours a day.

You will need to know whether you will be connecting to Deakin using IP or ISDN. Deakin supports both methods, but IP is preferred due to quality.

Refer to the help sheet titled Videoconference: connect to Deakin from external sites for assistance.
