Applications

[ IT support staff: Software from this website is not to be installed on Phoenix workstations without prior consultation. ]

Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard

Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard replaces Macromedia's Studio 8 suite, and includes the Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash Professional and Contribute applications.

To install Creative Suite 3 Web Standard, your computer must meet the product's system requirements, including minimum RAM, processor and operating system version. If your computer does not meet the requirements for Creative Suite 3, you should install the older Macromedia Studio 8 versions.

While the software is installing, you must keep all your browsers and Microsoft Office applications closed, otherwise the installation will not complete successfully.

Note: Your Adobe downloads are recorded for audit purposes. As a Deakin Staff member you are entitled to install this on 1 home computer and use the included applications for work purposes only.

Adobe Acrobat

Note: If you are looking for the Adobe Reader utility for opening, viewing and printing PDF files, click here.

Acrobat creates documents in PDF (Portable Document Format), which can be read on many different computer platforms. Users can install the free Adobe Reader to open, view and print PDF documents.

Note: Adobe Acrobat Professional is not licensed for installation on non-Phoenix computers.

Note: Adobe Acrobat Standard is available to STAFF ONLY, and may only be used on workstations owned by the University. It may not be used on privately owned workstations, even those used for University business; you should use a simple PDF maker instead. If you have a Phoenix workstation, Adobe Acrobat Standard is already installed.

Macromedia Director

Adobe Director and Adobe Shockwave Player software help you create and publish compelling interactive games, demos, prototypes, simulations, and eLearning courses for the web, Mac and Windows desktops, DVDs, and CDs. Integrate virtually any major file format, including video created with Adobe Flash software and native 3D content.

Note: This is the Director authoring software. To view Director/Shockwave content in your web browser, download the Shockwave Plug-in.

The Registration installer installs Deakin's site-license serial numbers onto your computer. This enables you to install the software packages without having to type serial numbers and also ensures that your installation is correctly identified as coming under the Deakin University license agreement. The Macromedia suite of products may be installed on any University workstation, or any home computer operated by a University staff member.

Run the registration AFTER running the product installer.

Note: This registration tool is available to STAFF ONLY. It is a breach of the University license to provide it to non-staff members.

OpenOffice

OpenOffice is an open-source alternative to Microsoft Office which has built-in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and other facilities. It can read and write Microsoft Office-compatible documents. NeoOffice is the version for Mac OS X, and supports the same features and file types, with a Mac-like interface.

Note: This application is NOT supported by the IT Service Desk.

NeoOffice 2.2.5

Corel

Corel WordPerfect 3.5e and Corel Graphics 8 LE are freeware word processor and graphics applications for the Macintosh. Corel Graphics 8 LE includes Corel PHOTO-PAINT and CorelDRAW, which can be used for drawing, painting, image manipulation and page layout. Both PHOTO-PAINT and Draw are fully functional but have a number of limitations over the commercial products (eg: maximum number of open documents, number of formats you can save a file as). WordPerfect 3.5e is no different than the version previously available commercially and has no limitations.

Note: If you need to share files with Microsoft Word users (all Deakin staff members and lab workstations use Microsoft Word), you must save files as RTF or Rich Text Format. WordPerfect cannot read or write Microsoft Word documents.

Note: These applications are NOT supported by the IT Service Desk.
