Browser Plug-ins

[ IT support staff: Software from this website is not to be installed on Phoenix workstations without prior consultation. ]

Browser plug-ins add new functionality to your web browser. Some handle video, video and graphics files, others support interactive multimedia or 3D models. Most plug-ins work with (or are available for) Mozilla and Internet Explorer. The plug-ins below are the most popular and commonly required plug-ins for the internet.

When a plug-in installer refers to the "Netscape" family of browsers, or being "Netscape-compatible", this usually means Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla (1.x), Mozilla Seamonkey, Opera, and derivations of these programs.

Note: These plugins are NOT supported by the IT Service Desk.

QuickTime and iTunes

QuickTime is a set of system components which lets your computer handle a wide range of multimedia types, including music, sound, graphic and video files from various platforms, streaming audio and video, VR scenes and objects, 3D objects and digital video. It also includes a plug-in for your web browser which lets you view multimedia inline.

With iTunes for Windows and Mac OS X, you can subscribe to DSO podcasts, manage, update and watch them, and sync to your iPod. Phoenix Desktop users should install iTunes from the Software Catalogue.
