Quicktime setup - Mac

The lecture recording is presented in QuickTime format. If you have setup your computer with software (QuickTime and browser software - Mozilla or Internet Explorer) from the Deakin Learning Toolkit CD Rom (DLT), then accessing the file using the URL should result in the program playing in your browser. If it does not play, there are several options you may need to set:

1. The file to be played requires that you install QuickTime. This is available for both Windows and Macintosh computers, included on the DLT CD Rom and can also be downloaded from Deakin's software website, or from the Apple website.

To check to see if you have QuickTime installed see the Troubleshooting page, and then check that you are ready to listen to a Streaming file go to the Streaming test page.

2. Follow the installation instructions on the DLT, or those that come with the downloaded QuickTime installer.

3. You may need to check your QuickTime settings for connection speed and server. Go to Applications > System Preferences and choose QuickTime.

4. Select the 'Connection' tab then choose the appropriate modem speed that you have installed. This example shows a 56k modem connection. (Figure 4)

5. Click the Streaming Transport button then select the 'Automatically determine the best protocol and port ID' option as shown below. (Figure 5).

NOTE: If you have problems connecting, try changing the above setting to use the 'HTTP port 80' setting. (Figure 6)
