Students registered with the Disability Resource Centre (DRC), may require alternative assessment arrangements. This requirement should be discussed with the staff at the DRC on your campus, and should occur in the first few weeks of the academic year or as soon as the need arises. Be aware of time – arrangements for alternative assessment cannot be implemented overnight.
Alternative assessment arrangements can include:
Examinations
Individual supervision or home sits can also be arranged where students are not able to attend an examination centre, or where an off campus student’s nominated centre is unable to meet their need. Venues at the Burwood, Geelong, and Warrnambool campuses can accommodate most alternative arrangements.
Students requiring individual supervision will be asked to supply details of a venue. You will need to nominate where you wish to sit your examination. This will usually be your home, however the home of your supervisor or other appropriate facility can be nominated. Please note that penalty charges may apply where students make late changes to their examination venue (refer to Deakin University’s undergraduate or postgraduate studies handbook).
Students requiring individual supervision will also need to supply the name of a person who is willing to supervise the examination. The supervisor cannot be a student at Deakin University, a member of your family, or a person living with you. The supervisor is paid by Deakin University to invigilate your examination. Deakin University reserves the right to nominate a supervisor in some instances.
Please be aware that any requests for changes to your examination arrangements should be made prior to the release of the exam timetable on Student Connect or immediately your circumstances change. Requests for changes to examinations cannot be processed in less than 10 working days of your scheduled examination date.
In circumstances where there is not enough time for changes to be made, students
should consider applying for ‘Special Consideration’ through their faculty.
