Academic Support Worker

Some students, as a result of a disability, may require the services of an Academic Support Worker (ASW). The ASW can assist the student with academic tasks such as taking notes, assignment preparation, and laboratory sessions. Sign language interpreting can also be provided. If you think that you need an ASW then you should discuss this with the staff at the Disability Resource Centre (DRC).

It should be noted that it is not the role of the ASW to explain the content of academic work, clarify with academic staff issues that have arisen from the lectures and tutorials, return books to the library or seek extensions.  It is not their role to provide attendant care, transport or assist with personal matters.

The University reserves the right to withdraw services if a student fails to attend classes without an explanation, consistently changes arrangements, is consistently late or does not comply with student responsibility guidelines.
